Hello!
How are you doing?
I'm currently traveling this week, so instead of hanging out in my garden in Hammenhög (population 1200), I'm spending the week with Summer Health in New York (population 8,800,000).
The two cities couldn't be more different from one another. In New York, there is great food literally everywhere, whereas in Hammenhög, I need to make it all myself. In Hammenhög, I have nature all around me, whereas in New York, there is Central Park (which is great, but it's far from "natural"). Here in New York, I've been interacting with people all week, whereas at home, I can go days, if not weeks, without really talking to anyone except my partner or dog.
But I'm also realizing that it's these extremes that I enjoy the most. It's probably one of the reasons I don't see myself living long-term in, let's say, Stockholm or Malmö. They are cities, sure, but they are nothing like New York. They are both close to nature and stillness, but they can't offer the same tranquility as Hammenhög. Sometimes you want the middle ground, sometimes you want the polar opposites.
In addition to spending time with the team and working with the great people here, I've also been able to catch up with friends and finally meet Amanda. We've collaborated on several projects, including Zabka, Eobuwie, Volumental, and Tractorbeam! While remote work is fantastic, there's nothing like meeting people in person.
I haven't been able to write a new post yet, but I have actually written a pretty long one. Unfortunately, I'm not able to post it just yet. No, I wasn't invited to secretly test the Apple Vision Pro (although I'll probably sell a kidney to buy one when they launch). I'm giving a talk for my friends over at FlyingBisons in a couple of weeks, so I've spent my downtime this week preparing for that. Expect it to go online at the end of June!
A couple of things I’ve saved to Mymind lately
- I loved this from Dan Mall:
“Overall, I rely on on AI to help me design more and design faster. I don’t rely on AI to help me design better. I definitely don’t rely on AI to design for me or instead of me.” - Principles of Spatial Design
- This tweet from Duolingo
Ok, that’s all for now!
